World Earth Day, celebrated on 22nd April 2022, is all about putting the planet first and celebrating the planet’s clean and natural resources.

The day is used to raise awareness about global climate change and this World Earth Day we wanted to share a list of ways in which you can get involved.

7 Things To Do To Celebrate Earth Day

  • Avoid The Car
Our cars are some of the greatest sources of pollution in our lives so it makes sense to start there. If you can, consider walking or cycling to work but if you can’t, public transport or carpooling is a better option than driving yourself into work. You can even consider working remotely from home for the day.
  • Shorten (or skip) The Shower
The average Brit takes about 8 minutes to shower each day and even though that doesn’t sound like a lot, when we break it down we can see how damaging that is to our planet. The average showerhead uses 2.5 gallons (9.4 litres) of water per minute. That means the average shower uses 20 gallons (75 litres) of water. And filling a hot tub takes much more! That’s not to say that we think you shouldn’t take a shower at all, but taking a much shorter one would be beneficial.
  • Plant A Tree
World Earth Day is the perfect opportunity to plant a tree. Planting new trees will not only give you a greener garden but more greens help to absorb some of the CO2 in the air helping to reduce air pollution. However,  if you are unable to plant a tree you can also sign up and donate to Ecologi. Ecologi will plant 100 trees for a price of £12.40. Bargain!
  • Do The Big Turn Off
The ‘big turn off’ is deciding to turn off and unplug all unnecessary appliances for 1 hour of the day. Everyone is encouraged to go out and enjoy nature.
  • Invest In Reusables
Invest in reusable products to decrease the amount of waste you produce each day. Buying a reusable water bottle and filling it up from the tap will help to cut down on all the plastics you introduce in your life and the environment.
  • Go Paperless
Choose to go paperless, get paperless bills and don’t take paper receipts when shopping. Most times when you choose to opt for e-bills you can also increase your savings due to the fact that some companies actually charge a small fee for sending out a paper bill.
  • Donate To An Environmental Organisation
Donating to an organisation that focuses on creating an environment and social impact like Ecologi and / or 1% For The Planet is a good way to join the fight against climate change. So if you have extra finances, consider donating to one of the organisations mentioned or any other pushing for change.

These are just 7 ways in which you can celebrate Earth day and make a small contribution to the global campaign and we’d love to hear about the ways in which you’re planning to support World Earth Day in the comments!

BUT…

Don’t just leave it to World Earth day!

Yes, it's great to do something nice for the environment on World Earth Day but what's better is to keep it going.

Imagine just how much more that we could do if we took care of the environment every day.
