As May unfolds and warmer temperatures beckon us outdoors, our focus naturally gravitates towards the garden, often centreing on the never ending task of mowing the lawn.
Yet, amidst this seasonal routine, a poignant call from a charitable organisation begins to help wildlife: pause the mowers and let nature thrive.
Plantlife embarks on its No Mow May campaign, urging individuals to forego lawn maintenance this month in a bid to foster flourishing habitats for wildlife. Their mission resonates deeply, advocating for the creation of more hospitable environments within our own gardens.

As an award winning, behaviour change impact agency; betternotstop are proud to support this cause for biodiversity and wildlife conservation. Our own favourite national treasure, sir David Atternborough has also shown support for this movement and warns Brits not to mow our lawns this month.
Why do we need No Mow May?
We’ve lost approximately 97% of flower-rich meadows since the 1930’s and with them gone are vital food needed by pollinators, like bees and butterflies.
A healthy lawn with some long grass and wildflowers benefits wildlife, tackles pollution and can even lock away carbon below ground. With over 20 million gardens in the UK, even the smallest grassy patches add up to a significant proportion of our land which, if managed properly, can deliver enormous gains for nature, communities and the climate.
This is why betternotstop are calling for people to get involved with #NoMowMay every year, and let wild plants get a head start on the summer.
